Next Monday, October 14, the Institute of Collective Health (ISC/UFBA) and the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra will launch the documentary “ Reexistir por Linhas Transmutáveis - Histórias da Reforma Psiquiátrica e da Luta Antimanicomial Baiana”, directed by Bahian filmmaker Talbert Igor. The feature film will be launched at UFBA's Saladearte Cinema, in two free screenings at 9:30 and 18:30. After the screening there will be a chat with the director, researchers and workers involved in the project.
The film proposes a poetic and political approach to individual and collective narratives on the subject of mental health. The work is based on the activities of the Psyglocal Project, which takes place in partnership between the two universities and aims to analyze the history of human rights in the field of psychiatry and mental health. The film includes interviews and records of a series of initiatives, projects and associations that seek to discuss and strengthen the current psychiatric reform scenario, as well as providing a forum for exchanges between the European and Brazilian anti-asylum movements.
