«Study Day: the children of the "ASE", children-symptoms of the Social Assistance to Childhood?».
This symposium is organized around the research work presented by Maxime Dauphin, PhD student in educational sciences at UMR CNRS 7533 LADYSS Paris 8, whose objective is to analyze the mechanisms of childcare in the Child Welfare System and to clarify the concept of the child-symptom. Within the framework of a genealogical analysis of knowledges built from the archives of the Saint Vincent de Paul Hospital in Paris, the aim will be to present how the history of the ideas of child protection in France has contributed to the social construction, from the 19th century onwards, of the practices and discourses of professionals within health and social institutions in the present time which, far from producing emancipation, produces iatrogenesis. In other words, it will be to discuss how genealogy brings out the ontology of the child-symptom, and also whether it consists in the ontology of the subject who experiences a genealogical emersion. This study day may also be of interest to professionals involved in the critical analysis of institutional models of child protection, and for professionals in the medical-social sector and those responsible for the care of children considered "unfit". Leading witnesses in the field of special education will share their experiences.
